Suffolk County Ball 2008
A fabulous night is promised for all seven hundred guests at the “sell out” 2008 Suffolk County Ball. The Ball takes place on Saturday 24 May in the Members’ Ringside Club on TrinityPark. The organisers Suffolk Agricultural Association promise an evening of delicious Suffolk food and fantastic entertainment.
The main aim of this year’s Ball, which is held every 3 years, is to raise money for Breakthrough breast cancer in Suffolk. Breakthrough is the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer through research, campaigning and education. Their essence comes from the thousands of people who are committed to a single vision - to work for a future free from the fear of breast cancer. The Suffolk Group, was set up in 2001, and comprises three area groups covering the South, West and East of the County. The Group has since raised over £300,000 by organising balls, collections, sponsored walks and even an annual tennis tournament.
Port of Felixstowe is this year’s principal sponsor of the Ball. The Port is the largest container port in the UK, and one of the largest container ports in North Europe. It is one of the region’s largest employers, with a workforce of over 2,800 and contributes some £100 million into the local economy through wages and pensions alone.
Commenting on the County Ball Paul Davey, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Port said “We are delighted to be supporting the CountyBall. The Port of Felixstowe is an integral part of the Suffolk community. We will also be at the Suffolk Show once again this year to enable local people to gain a better insight in to the workings of the Port”.
During the evening there will be two fund raising activities taking place and it is hoped to raise in excess of £20,000 towards this worthwhile cause. The Champagne Draw will give guests the opportunity to win one of the six bottles of champagne, ranging from a half bottle through to the salamanzar! There will also be an auction of exclusive prizes allowing guests to bid for items ranging from a Newmarket Full Hospitality Race day for 8 people, kindly supplied by Simon Kershaw, to two Silverjet first class flights to New York, which will add to the exciting atmosphere of the evening.
After enjoying a delicious four course meal, with the ingredients where possible having been sourced from Suffolk and the fundraising activities guests will be entertained by Musik Express, who are back by popular demand for their third time running.
Christopher Busbhy, Executive Director of the SAA says “We are delighted once again to be hosting the Ball and we hope to raise in excess of £20,000 to support Suffolk Breakthrough. Apart from ‘ball goers’ having a great time the purpose of the event is to raise the profile of Breakthrough and the good work this organisation undertakes.”
The Suffolk Agricultural Association is very grateful to all companies/individuals for their generous support of this event and you are assured of a night to remember.
