Food & Drink Industry Showcase
The Suffolk Education Business Partnership were approached by the Learning and Skills Council to organise such “industry days” after extensive consultation throughout Suffolk was undertaken in 2006 identifying significant skills shortages in six key business sectors. Food and Drink Production is one of the industries highlighted. At Trinity Park on Wednesday 2nd July students spent 20 minutes in each workshop and workshops included: MyJuice, Brooms Barn, Shawsgate Tea, OtleyCollege, Suffolk Coastal District Council (Environmental Health) and Aramark.
WORK SHOP INFORMATION
Work Shop 1 – My Juice
Powerpoint Presentation about how My Juice started and how they have gone from strength to strength resulting in the opening of a new Colchester branch. Students were also able to taste some of the tasty and healthy smoothies.
Work Shop 2 – Springboard UK
Students learnt about the industry and how Springboard can help.
Options within the industry were explained.
Exciting times for Aramark as they are providing the catering for the Olympics.
Workshop 3 – Suffolk Coastal District Council
A short presentation followed by two activities about the job of an Environmental Health officer.
Workshop 4 – Otley College
Foodskills Dept. College of Further Education. Carried out a branding exercise on Tomato Ketchup. Students had to come up with a product name, logo and label design.
Workshop 5 – Brooms Barn
Brooms Barn Research is an agricultural research organisation which carries out high quality strategic and applied research for the benefit of UK arable growers.
The workshop consisted of an overview of their organisation and activities followed by a virus identification exercise.
